TH 921: Advanced Biblical Theology Old Testament

Some doctrine, though very little, can be gleaned through natural revelation. Nearly all of what we know about God and His truth comes from His revelation through Scripture. This course examines the knowledge of God from the Old Testament. Thus, the theology of the Old Testament is concerned with an understanding of God and His self-revelation as it is found in the canonical Scriptures. Two concerns guide the development of our study. The first entails an examination of the underlying unity in the communication of God with Israel. The second deals with the ways God dealt with Israel as His revelation of Himself moved toward a completed salvation in Jesus Christ. On completing this course, students will1. Identify and discuss the unifying themes of the Old Testament and the relevance to the Christian life and witness. 2. Trace the doctrine of the knowledge of God relevant to His attributes such as holiness, righteousness, faithfulness, love, and judgment. 3. Identify the theme of salvation in the Old Testament as holy history with reference to sin and atonement, death and future life, sacrifice, and cult and eschatology. 4. Explain the nature of man in the Old Testament with reference to man as creature, flesh, spirit, and image of God, male and female
