TH 220: Biblical Theology
3.00 Credit Hours
On Campus, Online
This course introduces students to the discipline of biblical theology, which explores the unfolding story of God’s revelation and redemptive plan as presented throughout the Bible. Unlike systematic theology, which organizes doctrine by topics, biblical theology traces the themes, patterns, and development of God's work in history across the canonical narrative. Students will examine key biblical themes—such as covenant, kingdom, creation, and redemption—and learn to see how they develop and culminate in Christ. By understanding the unity and diversity of Scripture, students will be equipped to interpret the Bible in its historical, literary, and theological context. This course emphasizes the redemptive-historical flow of Scripture while helping students develop a cohesive understanding of its key theological themes. By the end of this course, students will be able to: 1. Define biblical theology and distinguish it from systematic theology and other theological disciplines. 2. Trace the unfolding of major biblical themes across the Old and New Testaments, showing how they culminate in Christ. 3. Analyze individual biblical texts in light of their place within the overarching biblical narrative. 4. Explain the progressive nature of God’s revelation and redemptive plan throughout Scripture. 5. Identify the theological unity of the Bible while recognizing its diverse literary forms and historical contexts. 6. Articulate the significance of biblical theology for understanding the gospel and applying it to contemporary life and ministry. 7. Integrate a biblical-theological framework into personal study, teaching, and preaching of Scripture.
