This orientation course prepares students entering the Doctor of Ministry Leadership program for success by providing an overview of program expectations, doctoral-level research and writing skills, and foundational strategies for conceptualizing their dissertation project. Students will explore critical academic resources, engage in discussions about effective leadership research, and create a preliminary framework for their doctoral dissertation topic. By the end of this course, students will be equipped with the tools and confidence necessary to excel in their doctoral journey. By the end of this course, students will be able to:1. Articulate the requirements, timeline, and structure of the Doctor of Ministry Leadership program. (Understand Program Expectations)2. Navigate key academic resources, including library databases, research tools, and writing support services. (Master Academic Resources)3. Demonstrate an entry-level understanding of scholarly research methodologies, proper citation practices, and critical analysis techniques. (Apply Doctoral-Level Research Skills)4. Produce a well-structured academic writing sample that reflects doctoral-level standards in clarity, organization, and argumentation. (Develop Academic Writing Skills)5. Begin formulating a research question or area of interest for their doctoral dissertation and outline preliminary steps for developing this project. (Identify a Research Focus)6. Collaborate with peers to discuss leadership challenges and share insights into potential dissertation topics. (Engage in Peer Learning)7. Create a personal plan for managing time, balancing responsibilities, and maintaining productivity throughout the program. (Plan for Success)
