Course Description: PM104 Practical Bible Teaching & Communication - Course Description. J. Michael Sproule (The Heritage of Rhetorical Theory, New York: McGraw Hill, 1997), said: “Americans today seem to have only two real alternatives in coping with the challenges of the era – better speech or sullen silence.” For practical ministry, there is a third option. Of course we want to focus on better speech, but we also want to apply that speech in the setting of communicating biblical truths. We will explore both the art and science of oral communication to help you become a better public speaker as you learn best practices and demonstrate the skills of effective oral communication. What you will learn will be applicable in ministry, academic, vocational, and social settings.Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Describe the impact of missional and ministry preaching as the declarative proclamation of the Word of God. 2. Analyze your commitment to the Scriptural truth, especially the knowledge that God desires all to be saved and to come to knowledge of truth 3. Develop and demonstrate verbal, nonverbal, and research competencies through researching, preparing, and delivering presentations relevant to your audiences 4. Conduct meaningful research on a variety of topics, then analyze your audience and design speeches to reflect your research. 5. Evaluate speeches based on a variety of verbal and non-verbal criteria. 6. Demonstrate confidence to teach publicly in a variety of situations. 7. Evaluate the scriptural dimensions and speaker responsibilities in preaching and teaching the Word of God.
