Philosophy is the governor of our thoughts and actions. It gets to the heart of who we are, what we believe and why we believe it. A philosophy of education is therefore the foundation for the entire program. It determines the character and the skill of the leader, the teacher and the student. The importance of building a biblically sound Christian philosophy of education cannot be overstated. In this course, students will analyze and evaluate selected biblical texts to establish a strong theological foundation for education. Coupled with this theological study, students will explore researched-based practices to develop a personal “pedagogical creed,” a Christian philosophy of education that will serve as a framework for teaching and a foundation for ongoing educational leadership. On competition of this course, students will develop a develop a personal philosophy of education, which serves as a beginning framework for teaching ministry. Course Objectives: As a result of completing this course, the student will: 1. Evaluate some of the prevailing approaches to education which existed in historical periods. 2. Identify emphases in educational thought and practice in historical and contemporary contexts. 3. Consider the dimensions of a Christian or religious philosophy of education. 4. Begin the process of developing a Philosophy of Christian Education 5. Analyze Scripture to develop and enhance Biblical precepts into a Biblically sound teaching ministry. 6. Demonstrate the integration of educational ministries in the local church.
