PM 260: Youth Discipleship and Programs

The focus of this course is to build upon the foundations created in PM 160 to help church leaders plan, coordinate, lead, and evaluate youth ministry in a local church. Students will take their biblical philosophy of youth ministry and within that framework learn how to organize youth ministry in the church. Emphasis will be given to ministry with students, parents, and adult volunteers. Additional study will include the various roles of the youth minister as a staff member, family member, and community leader. Special attention will also be given to administrative principles and strategies involved in an effective youth ministry. (Three credit hours)Course Objectives. As a result of completing this course, the student will: 1. Describe the components and strategies of a complete youth ministry and how to outline and assemble an overall program. 2. Leverage various strategies to devise a one-year program for youth ministry. 3. Appraise the use of good administrative principles to develop a youth ministry for a particular local church situation. 4. Explain how to develop volunteers and disciple youth to become future leaders. 5. Illustrate how to share one’s faith effectively in both words and deeds through youth ministry.
