TH 561: Apologetics to the World Religions
3.00 Credit Hours
An in-depth survey of the great non–Christian religious systems of the world including Animism, Buddhism, Hinduism, the New Age Spirituality, Judaism and Islam. Some of the other facets (isms) within some of these religions will also be drawn into the course. The student will learn about other views of God and other religions. This course will provide the opportunity for the student to see the truth of Christianity compared and contrasted with other religions. This is also a study in how Christianity alone is the true religion..Course Objectives: As a result of completing this course, the student will: 1. Explore the connection between apologetics and understanding the various world religions. 2. Demonstrate knowledge of the worldviews and how they reveal the tenets of a world religion, so as to find contextual bridges to share the gospel of Christ with the adherent. 3. Describe the major themes and theological issues of the world religions and how they differ from the Christian worldview. 4. Articulate an understanding of biblical revelation in the context of scriptural authenticity and authority of the Christian faith in contrast to the world religions. 5. Fulfill the mandate of 1 Peter 3:15 (“set apart Christ as Lord and be ready in your hearts to make a defense to anyone who asks you for the reason and hope you have with gentleness and respect” by incorporating it into personal discipleship and potential church/personal ministry.
