COUN478: Ethics of Counseling

This course introduces students to the ethical foundations of counseling, emphasizing the responsibility of guiding vulnerable individuals with care and integrity. Students will examine key principles such as confidentiality, boundaries, and informed consent, and apply ethical decision-making to real-life scenarios. Special attention is given to evaluating counseling practices in light of Scripture and the proper use of spiritual authority. The course also prepares students to navigate legal, institutional, and ministry expectations, including recognizing personal limitations and making appropriate referrals. Through this study, students develop the wisdom and discernment necessary to counsel responsibly and in a manner that honors Christ.
