BI 140: Greek I

This course will introduce the students to the New Testament language of the Bible. Students will learn how to read and interpret the language. They will also learn how to apply the correct meaning and contexts of the language to preaching, teaching and exegetical work. (Three credit hours) Course Objectives At the end of this course, each student should be able to: 1. Write and pronounce the letters and diphthongs (the sounds) of Koine Greek and read verses of the Greek New Testament according to the Erasmian pronunciation system. 2. Explain concepts of Greek grammar in their own words. 3. Identify (parse) Greek nouns, adjectives, verbs, and various other forms according to the parsing system taught in class. 4. Write the meanings and possible glosses for the 200 most frequently used Greek words in the New Testament. 5. Translate phrases, verses and passages of the Greek New Testament.
