Degree Objectives

The degree objectives for the Bachelor of Biblical Studies are derived from the Cornerstone College and Seminary (CCS) Goals and Objectives. The objectives below are accomplished through careful definition of the 40 courses that comprise the degree. Each measurable learning objective in the degree courses can be traced to one or more of the objectives below. In addition, each objective below is addressed by at least one course, providing overlapping and comprehensive coverage.

  1. Apply hermeneutical and exegetical methods to interpret and analyze biblical texts, demonstrating proficiency with historical-critical, literary, and theological approaches.
  2. Synthesize and evaluate major theological themes across the Old and New Testaments, constructing coherent frameworks in systematic theology that reflect biblical unity.
  3. Implement practical ministry models grounded in Scripture, integrating worship, discipleship, and compassionate service in both local and global contexts.
  4. Analyze diverse cultural and socio-religious environments through the lens of the Great Commission and Great Commandment, formulating context-sensitive evangelistic and compassion-driven strategies.
  5. Create comprehensive discipleship methodologies, employing sound pedagogical principles to foster spiritual formation and mission engagement.
  6. Demonstrate ministry leadership and counseling skills—mentoring and leading individuals and congregations in ways that reflect Jesus’ commands to make disciples and love others.
  7. Defend the Gospel and God’s role in creation of the Cosmos and people against attacks.
  8. Identify and assess patterns of personal spiritual growth emerging from the practice of spiritual disciplines and participation in Christian community.

Credit Transfer Considerations

Up to 62SH can be transferred into this degree. Course transfers should be at the 100- and 200-levels.

Degree Description

The Bachelor of Biblical Studies (BBS) degree consists of 40 courses, all of which are three semester hours (SH) each, except for SCIN230 and SCIN240, which include a one SH lab. The General Education and Core Basic Biblical Studies groups are identical to those in the ABS degree, making the ABS degree 100% transferable. In addition to the ABS elements, students must complete Core Advanced Biblical Studies (12 courses, 36 SH) and an eight-course concentration (8 courses, 24 SH). Note that the Core Advanced Studies group has four electives (two at each of the 300- and 400-levels), which may be chosen from any other concentration. This feature is intended to allow students to tailor their degree by adding topics of interest.
