BIBL101: Bible Study Tools

This course will introduce students to the practical use of basic and intermediate Bible study tools. In addition, students will learn about the purpose and use of more advanced Bible study tools for deeper and more nuanced biblical studies. Bible study tools include the study Bible, Bible dictionary, concordance, topical Bible (e.g., Nav’s Topical Bible), and commentaries. Intermediate tools include Bible atlases, Word Study resources (e.g., Vines Expository Dictionary), systematic theologies, parallel Bibles, and cross-reference systems (e.g., Treasury of Scripture Knowledge). Advanced Bible study tools include interlinear Bibles, lexicons, the Septuagint (LXX), critical texts (e.g., Nestle-Aland and Biblia Hebraica), textual apparatus (e.g., NA28 or UBS5), the Dead Sea Scrolls, patristic sources, and biblical theological dictionaries (NID of OT/NT Theology). Students will learn how to carry out basic Bible study using the free resources included with Logos.
